Senior Credit Manager

Senior Credit Manager

Job description

Job Role: Senior Credit Manager

Experience: 7+ Years

Location: Mumbai | Regular multi-city travel

About the role

● Own borrower, anchor and programme credit assessment for physical and hybrid lending journeys where digital information alone may not provide sufficient context. Combine bureau, banking, GST and financial analysis with structured discussions and site verification.

● Underwrite referred, non-standard and higher-complexity cases; recommend approval/referral/rejection, limit, pricing, tenure, conditions and mitigants, and convert field learning into stronger policy, portfolio monitoring, EWS and collections actions.

Key Responsibilities

● Assess MSME borrowers using bureau, banking, GST, financial statements and programme data; evaluate business model, vintage, working-capital cycle, seasonality, leverage, obligations, cash conversion and repayment capacity.

● Conduct structured borrower/promoter discussions and site visits to verify premises, stock, machinery, staffing, customer/supplier activity and lawful socio-economic or operating context relevant to business stability and repayment capacity.

● Perform anchor and programme due diligence covering business strength, vendor/dealer ecosystem, concentration, transaction and settlement flows, data quality, disputes, governance and monitoring capability.

● Underwrite referred, deviation, higher-ticket and complex cases; prepare concise credit appraisal notes and present decisions, limits, pricing, tenure, conditions and mitigants to the appropriate approval forum.

● Monitor early portfolio performance, conduct post-sanction reviews where required and feed field observations, fraud/trust concerns and collections outcomes into policy, EWS, programme controls and sourcing decisions.

Core Competencies

● Independent credit judgement – able to challenge optimistic narratives while remaining fair, evidence-based and commercially aware.

● Strong field curiosity, listening and communication skills across small-business owners, anchor management, operations and internal committees.

● Disciplined documentation and execution: separates verified facts, representations, judgement and unresolved risks, and follows conditions through closure. Must-Have Requirements

● 7-10 years of credit underwriting experience in an NBFC, bank or fintech, including at least 3-4 years of hands-on MSME/SME field or branch credit assessment.

● Strong ability to analyse bureau, banking, GST and financial statements and to evaluate working-capital cycles, obligations, leverage, concentration and repayment capacity.

● Demonstrated experience conducting site visits, borrower/promoter discussions and complex credit appraisal; regular multi-city travel and independent decision recommendations are mandatory.

● Experience in supply-chain finance, dealer/distributor/vendor finance, embedded credit, physical commerce, line-of-credit or revenue-based financing.

● Exposure to anchor onboarding, programme due diligence, post-sanction monitoring, fraud/verification, collections feedback and EWS.

● Experience mentoring credit analysts/managers, presenting to credit committees and working in one or more regional languages in addition to English and Hindi. Ideal Candidate Profile

● A hands-on credit professional who is equally comfortable analysing data at a desk, interviewing a promoter and verifying how a business actually operates on the ground.

● Objective and structured: does not rely on unsupported social perceptions and uses only lawful, documented indicators relevant to business viability and repayment capacity.

● Commercially aware but not sales-driven; able to balance customer context, business opportunity, policy discipline and portfolio risk.
